Introduce a new “paint and primer in one” product line using an end cap within the existing paint department at The Home Depot. The display should share sightlines and construction techniques with the rest of the paint department, but have a more high-end, contemporary look to compliment the higher price point of the new product line.
Ongoing nationwide market research was being conducted to gather customer feedback while the display was under development and, because the new product launch was tied to a national television advertising campaign, a firm ship date would have to be maintained.
Miramar Designs used weldment construction to duplicate the consistency and ease of installation that already exists with other paint displays Miramar has been creating for The Home Depot for more than a decade. While maintaining the basic configuration of the logo band, countertop, and color pallet, Miramar introduced new materials, including columns, interactive lighting, high end laminates and brushed aluminum highlights. Three prototypes were produced during the market research phase and alternate designs, and various engineering and production methods were necessary to address customer feedback. All engineering and production methods were discussed in full with The Home Depot team to ensure high-end custom displays would be delivered within the firm delivery time frame.
Miramar Designs provided 2,200 displays at a rate of 100 units/day. Paint sales have shown a significant increase in spite of the economic downturn. All warranty and maintenance issues are resolved within 2-3 business days after notification, using inventory prepared in advance.
